Explain my responsibilities

Find out exactly what you need to do for your employees. And where to go if you have any questions.

Employer responsibilities

Once you've joined UniSuper as a participating employer, you have a number of responsibilities. As a participating employer, you'll need to provide us with timely and accurate information. Your responsibilities include:

  • providing prospective and new members with information on UniSuper
  • arranging for application forms to be completed and returned
  • giving us the details required to maintain a member's account, including:
    • name, title and address
    • contribution information
    • salary information, leave without pay, changes to service fraction, tax file number information
  • deducting contributions from employees' pay
  • remitting member and employer contributions within seven days of each pay period, using our SuperGate electronic contributions facility
  • being the first point of contact for members with general inquiries about UniSuper, and
  • providing us with information about exiting members.

How much superannuation must you pay?

The amount you contribute for your employees depends on:

  • their category of membership within UniSuper
  • whether they are eligible for the 9% Superannuation Guarantee contributions (Superannuation Guarantee contributions are equal to 9% of ordinary time earnings), and
  • whether they are eligible for a certain level of contributions under an Award or agreement.

Getting contributions to us on time

Our Trust Deed specifies that we must receive your contributions within seven working days of your organisation's regular payroll cycle (typically fortnightly), rather than the statutory minimum contribution frequency of quarterly contributions.

Contributions must be submitted via SuperGate, our electronic contributions and data collection system.

The Trustee may charge interest if contributions are remitted late.
