Inbuilt benefits and optional insurance cover
Be prepared for whatever the future may hold. Find out what optional insurance cover and/or inbuilt benefits you may be eligible to access through your UniSuper membership.
Optional Insurance Cover
UniSuper provides low cost Death and Disablement cover (including cover for terminal illness) to eligible Accumulation 1, Accumulation 2, Defined Benefit Division and Spouse Account members which provides a lump sum benefit for you and your dependants in the event of your death, terminal medical illness or disablement.
Eligible Accumulation 1 and Spouse Account members are able to apply for low-cost Income Protection cover which provides a monthly income benefit (for up to 2 years) if you are assessed as temporarily unable to work because you are totally disabled or partially disabled.
The Trustee has taken out group life policies with Hannover Life Re of Australasia Ltd, ABN 37 062 395 484, to provide the optional Death and Disablement and Income Protection insurance cover. All optional insurance cover is subject to the conditions set out in the insurance policy documents (you can request a copy of the policy free of charge by calling the UniSuper Helpline on 1800 331 685).
Defined Benefit Division and Accumulation 2 members
Death and Disablement benefits are an inbuilt feature of DBD and Accumulation 2 membership. Members cannot opt out of these benefits. Benefits are payable for death, terminal medical condition, disablement and temporary incapacity. They are provided (self-insured) by the Fund, not by an external insurance provider.
