    Notes to editors*

    • UniSuper is one of Australia’s largest superannuation funds and is run in the best interests of its members.
    • We don’t pay profits to shareholders or commissions to financial advisers.
    • For more than 40 years, UniSuper has been managing super for people employed in the higher education and research sector.
  • Our story

UniSuper began with a single, compelling idea: we can deliver better value.

At our origin in 1982, UniSuper’s founders believed they could create a superannuation scheme far superior to the default government option. They turned this vision into reality, delivering better returns for members and setting the stage for an organisation that has consistently looked after its members’ best interests. Our work makes a difference in the future of members’ lives: real people with real-world issues and worries about the future.

UniSuper was founded in October 2000, as a result of a merger between the Superannuation Scheme for Australian Universities (SSAU) and the Tertiary Education Superannuation Scheme (TESS). Prior to the merger, UniSuper had been the trustee for the SSAU.

Today, we’re passionate about securing the future of Australia’s thinkers, creators and investigators who are shaping a better tomorrow. We empower them to be confident about the future and make better financial decisions.

  • Awards

We’ve won a string of accolades from Australia’s top ratings and research agencies.

Money magazine, Australia’s most-read personal finance magazine, awarded us Best Pension Fund for 2023 and again for 2024.

We’re a SuperRatings 15 Year Platinum Performance Fund 2008-2023 (Flexi Pension, Accumulation 1 and Accumulation 2) and Chant West’s Super Fund of the Year 2023.

Canstar recognised us with their Outstanding Value Superannuation Awards in 2022 and 2023 and their Most Satisfied Customers Award for Superannuation Funds 2023.
