UniSuper pension fees rated lowest in Australia

29 Mar 2018

UniSuper’s Flexi Pension default Balanced option was rated the lowest-fee option for its category in Australia, and our accumulation fees were also rated among Australia’s lowest, according to Chant West’s December 2017 Fee Surveys.

Chant West reviews the fees charged by Australia’s largest 100 super and pension funds across a range of investment options, balances and product types.

Leading industry in lower fees

Chant West’s December Pension Fees Survey found our Flexi Pension’s default Balanced investment option was the number one ranked lowest-fee option in its category across all balances reviewed ($100,000, $250,000, and $500,000).

Fees for our accumulation default Balanced (MySuper) investment option ranked the lowest in Australia for $250,000 balances, and second and fourth lowest for $50,000 and $25,000 balances, respectively, the December Super Fee Survey report showed.

In 2017 Chant West also awarded UniSuper Pension Fund of the Year.

Exceptional value

Our Head of Product, Ian Lorimer, says keeping fees low is a key priority for the fund.

“The results reflect our hard work in balancing great value, excellent service, and providing relevant choice to members,” Ian said.

“We continue to focus on driving efficiencies across the Fund’s operations to ensure our members continue to enjoy great value.”

Strong, long-term returns

UniSuper has also maintained strong long-term investment performance compared to industry averages according to research company, SuperRatings.

Our Balanced option—the default for Flexi Pension and Accumulation 1 members—has recorded first quartile investment returns for five, seven and 10-year periods, SuperRatings’ February 2018 Fund Crediting Rate Survey showed.1

Our Defined Benefit Division Scheme isn’t typically reviewed by super research companies, however recent actuarial reports show the investment funding remain at healthy levels—114% above the relevant Vested Benefit Index (VBI) and 123% above the Accrued Benefits Index (ABI).
