Executive leadership team

UniSuper's day-to-day administration is managed by a wholly owned company, UniSuper Management Pty Ltd (UniSuper Management).

Under the leadership of UniSuper Management’s Chief Executive Officer, Kevin O'Sullivan, the Fund operates in line with performance objectives set every year. The Board regularly reviews these objectives, particularly in regard to providing greater retirement outcomes for members.

Chief Executive Officer

As Chief Executive Officer, Kevin is responsible for developing, leading and implementing corporate strategy and culture. He is also accountable for the overall services and operational management of UniSuper Management nationally.

Kevin joined UniSuper in July 2013 and has more than 30 years’ experience in the superannuation and actuarial sectors. A qualified actuary, Kevin’s previous role was Director, Actuarial and Benefits Consulting at Russell Investments. Kevin has a degree in Commerce, is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia (FIAA), a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA) and a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries (FSA).

John Pearce

Chief Investment Officer

John joined UniSuper in 2009 and is responsible for the management of our investment functions. John has over 25 years’ experience in the financial services industry both in Australia and Asia. He has held several senior positions including Chief Executive Officer and General Manager, Investments for Australia's largest asset management company Colonial First State from 2000 to 2006. 

From 2006 to 2008 John was the Head of Global Asset Management for Ping An, which is China's second largest insurance company. John has a degree in economics and a Masters in applied finance. He has also completed a Program for Management Development at Harvard Business School. John was appointed a non-executive director on the Treasury Corporation of Victoria Board on 14 April 2015

Ruby Yadav

General Manager, Risk & Assurance

Ruby joined UniSuper in July 2015 and leads the Risk and Assurance team. The team is responsible for providing independent risk, compliance and assurance services to all business units with UniSuper. 

She brings a contemporary approach to risk management, focussed on driving change to create value for members and the organisation. Her approach is backed by her extensive experience in financial services and consulting organisations. She has held several senior roles at ANZ, KPMG, RMIT University and GE Capital. Her career and expertise includes risk management, internal audit, compliance, regulator relationships, corporate governance and major project advisory.

Ruby has a master’s degree in accounting from RMIT University and was a non-executive member of the Audit & Risk Committee for Wesley Mission Victoria.


Luke Barrett

General Counsel, Legal & Governance

Luke joined UniSuper in 2008 and is responsible for leading UniSuper’s legal team across all areas of its business, ensuring that UniSuper’s legal position is well protected for the benefit of our members. Luke has around 20 years' experience in the financial services industry, working with the trustees and directors of some of Australia's leading superannuation funds and investment managers on major legal, risk and governance projects, including dispute resolution and litigation.

In that time, he has been involved in establishing, merging and restructuring some of Australia’s largest superannuation funds and investment products and has been deeply involved in the selection and appointment of major service providers, such as custodians, administrators and investment managers.

Luke is an active participant in the superannuation industry and is currently the Chair of the Law Council of Australia's Superannuation Committee. This is the peak body for superannuation legal practitioners and is a role that sees him proactively involved in the regulatory reform process, consulting with Government, Treasury and regulators. Luke is also directly involved in UniSuper’s own engagement with Government and regulators on law reform proposals that stand to impact UniSuper and its members.

He has previously held senior legal positions with leading law firm Allens Linklaters and with Vanguard Investments, one of the world's largest fund managers.

Tim Anderson

Tim Anderson

Executive Manager, Marketing & Product

Tim joined UniSuper in 2011 and is responsible for leading UniSuper's Marketing, Brand, Communications, Education, Corporate Affairs and Product teams. Tim has more than 18 years’ experience in marketing/communications, customer service, corporate affairs and revenue generation/retention experience. He has held specialist roles in marketing and communications at Hewlett Packard for five years and senior managerial positions at IOOF heading its customer management and personal solutions teams for six years. 

Tim has a degree in business specialising in marketing and is RG146 compliant.

John Dyer

John Dyer

Chief Financial Officer

John joined UniSuper in 2007 and is responsible for financial controls and reporting ensuring accurate and timely measurement of the financial performance and position of all UniSuper group entities, and meeting all financial reporting and compliance obligations. 

John had a 22 year career in Finance at National Australia Bank and spent 11 years as a member elected trustee of the $3 billion National Australia Bank staff superannuation fund. John has a degree in economics and is a Certified Practising Accountant.

Lee Scales

Chief Customer Officer

Lee joined UniSuper in 2007 and prior to that had more than 25 years in the banking and finance industry. She has had extensive experience in financial and consulting services organisations and has held senior executive business, customer and human resources roles at the National Australia Bank (NAB). Her career and expertise includes people and learning strategy, operations and call centre management, transformation programs, change management and retail banking.

Lee has a Graduate Diploma in Leadership and Change, an Advanced Diploma in Human Resource Management, is a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA), a member of the Australian Human Resources Institute (AHRI) and has represented the superannuation sector on the Board of the Financial Institutions Remuneration Group (FIRG).

Jack McCartney

Jack McCartney

Executive Manager, Advice

Jack joined UniSuper in February 2014 and is responsible for managing the financial planning arm and UniSuper’s relationships with 37 universities and related research bodies. Jack has experience managing financial advice and corporate super functions across CBA, Colonial First State and BT Financial Group. 

Jack has accounting, company secretarial, human resources and financial services qualifications and is also a graduate of the Institute of Company Directors.

Executive Manager, Operations

Steven joined UniSuper in 2010 and is responsible for the delivery of high quality administration services for UniSuper’s Defined Benefit, Accumulation and Pension products. Steven is a specialist Operations Manager with over 20 years’ experience in the financial services industry with a proven track record of delivering transformational outcomes.

Steven holds a range of leadership, project, business, relationship management and superannuation industry qualifications.

Nicholas Drohan

Executive Manager, Program Management

Nicholas joined UniSuper in 2016 and is responsible for the management and execution of our portfolio of Technology and Business Change projects. Nicholas has extensive experience in transformation, change leadership and project execution in financial services, energy and manufacturing.

Nicholas has previously held senior consulting and project delivery roles with Accenture, AXA Australia (AMP) and most recently MLC / National Australia Bank. Nicholas holds an honours degree in Finance.

Anna Leibel

Executive Manager, Technology

Anna is an experienced executive and corporate adviser, renowned for her ability to blend strategy development and transformational change across technology, business practices and growth culture. Anna’s cross-industry career spans more than two decades in transformation programs, management consulting and technology start-ups.

Anna joined UniSuper in 2017 and is responsible for developing and delivering the technology strategy to achieve UniSuper’s strategic goals. The technology strategy prioritises the customer experience, modernising the way that we bring value to our customers, which includes introducing new technologies, the time that it takes for us to deliver new products and services and also keeping information secure and safe.

Anna has previously held senior consulting and general management roles with PwC, Telstra and NAB, and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Anna has also participated in two senior executive programs at Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT): Succeeding in a Digital Economy, and Driving Strategic Innovation.


Julie Watkins

Executive Manager, People Services

Julie joined UniSuper in 2018 with over 20 years’ experience in the HR field. This experience was gained in the financial services, healthcare, consumer goods and professional services sectors across Multinational, Asia Pacific and Australian roles.

Julie has worked overseas in HR and non-HR roles with expertise in areas of change, talent development, organisational design and building effective teams. Passionate about leading a People Services function that has business understanding at the heart of decisions and then executing with impact. Experienced working with Boards and has completed a Bachelor of Business, Graduate Diploma of Business (Major: Organisation Development) and recently completed Australian Institute of Company Directors accreditation.
