We’re authorised to ask for your TFN by tax law and in accordance with the Superannuation Industry (Supervision) Act 1993. It's not an offence if you don't give us your TFN, but there are benefits to doing so. You’ll need to provide us your TFN if you intend to opt into the Defined Benefit Division.

How we use your TFN

If you give us your TFN, we may disclose it to the ATO to validate your information when we receive your first employer contribution, or when we transfer any unclaimed benefits to the ATO.

We may disclose your TFN to other super funds if you transfer your super, unless you tell us in writing that you don’t want your TFN to be passed on.

These purposes may change if legislation changes in the future.

The benefits of providing your TFN

  • We’ll be able to accept all eligible types of after-tax contributions to your account
  • You won’t pay more tax than you need to on your contributions and benefit payments when you withdraw your super
  • It will be easier to find other super accounts in your name so you receive all the money you’re entitled to when you retire.
  • We can use your TFN to find any ATO- held money and transfer it to your UniSuper account, if you give permission for us to do so.

How to provide your TFN

You can add or update your TFN in the personal details section of your online account.

If you'd prefer to fill out a form, you can download and complete the TFN collection form (PDF, 78KB).
