Choosing your investments in retirement

Retirement isn’t an ‘all’ or ‘nothing’ event. Whether you’re still working or dialling down, when it comes to your investments, the choices you make can make a difference.

Choosing your investments is a balancing act

There are a range of things to consider, like your circumstances, your goals and how much risk you’re prepared to take or may need to take to achieve those goals.

What’s important is to make sure your income lasts through your retirement while funding day to day living expenses. That means generating income for now and allowing savings to grow over the long term to support future spending.

It’s a balancing act.

Funding spending now and spending later

UniSuper offers a range of investment options to support your spending now and your spending in later years. Through our Flexi Pension platform, you can choose one or more investment options from our pre-mixed options and sector investment options.

Pre-mixed options have different objectives and risk profiles. These invest across a wide range of assets such as shares, bonds, infrastructure, property and cash. Our pre-mixed options include two sustainable branded investment options^ that minimise exposure to certain industries.

Sector options invest in single asset classes that you can mix and match or combine with pre-mixed options. These include income generating options like our Australian Income, Australian Bond and Cash options as well as options designed to deliver longer term growth.

Everyone’s different and the option (or mix of options) that’s right for you will depend on your circumstances. There’s no right or wrong, and you may need to adjust your strategy as your situation changes over time.
